The Bridgehead Europe programme, initiated by EIT Health, offers European healthcare startups and scaleups personalised support to help them grow their business outside of their home country. It follows a need-based approach, matching startups and scaleups with clusters, accelerators and incubators from all over Europe.

The physical spaces and services offered by these structures provide a springboard to conquer new markets. Startups can take advantage of the local partner and customer networks, benefit from the infrastructure and apprehend the regulatory and business context of the country. Dedicated teams, belonging to the support structure, serve as local and experienced guides and open the right doors to develop business in these countries. In addition, in order to help companies in their expansion, EIT Health can grant them funding up to €30,000. To be eligible, companies must meet one of the network’s challenges: “Healthy Living, Active Ageing, Improved Healthcare”.

Who can apply? Bridgehead Europe is aimed at mature startups in all areas of healthcare that wish to enter new markets. Prerequisites: having a product already developed and marketed, a TRL 6, significant traction in the home market and a clearly defined international expansion strategy.

Medicen can help you determine which European countries are the most relevant based on your product and market access strategy. We also review the applications of our members before they are submitted to Bridgehead Europe.

For the 1st wave, 7 French companies were selected, out of 14 companies in total for the programme.

The Bridgehead Europe programme, initiated by EIT Health, offers European healthcare startups and scaleups personalised support to help them grow their business outside of their home country. It follows a need-based approach, matching startups and scaleups with clusters, accelerators and incubators from all over Europe.

Bridgehead Global is the equivalent of Bridgehead Europe, but for expansion beyond Europe. The programme is aimed at healthcare startups looking to expand their business in new countries such as Canada, the United States, China, Japan, Israel, etc.

They will be matched with European clusters, accelerators and incubators which frequently help companies approach new markets outside of Europe. They will offer personalised support, via a dedicated support team, helping companies understand the specifics of each country (healthcare system, regulatory environment, stakeholders, competition, etc.).

These structures have their own network of local partners: innovation clusters, accelerators, universities, companies, hospitals, etc. Startups will also have access to a rich ecosystem of industry representatives, investors, entrepreneurs, experts and mentors. They will thus benefit from the infrastructure and knowledge required to expand in the country of their choice.

In addition, under the Bridgehead Global programme, EIT Health can provide successful startups with a grant of up to €40,000.

Medicen helps its members target the right country based on their product and strategy. In addition, Medicen provides personalised support for companies looking to expand in Canada (medtech and e-health), Japan (biotech), Korea (biotech, medtech and e-health) and Singapore (medtech and e-health), with a dedicated budget of up to €40,000 per company.
